Why these parts are hard to find
Factory cabs from the 1970s to the 1990s used moulded plastics that become brittle after decades of sun and heat. Dealers can often no longer supply them, and used ones are usually just as brittle.
Size and safety
Many cab parts are larger than a typical 3D print, so they may be made in sections or by another process. Door handles and latches affect getting in and out of the cab safely; mechanisms like these are documented but not reproduced unless a safe design is proven.
Removing brittle trim
Old cab plastic cracks most easily when it is cold. Remove trim on a warm day, or let the cab warm up first, and release clips with a plastic trim tool rather than prying against the panel.
Keep every piece of a broken part. Even fragments show the clip positions, wall thickness and mounting points, which is what a replacement has to match.
What to measure before you request one
- Overall length, width and depth
- Positions of screw holes, clips and locating pins
- How the part meets the panels around it (overlaps, gaps, edges)
- Photos of the part fitted and removed, with a ruler in shot
